Enjoy a holistic healing art that adapts yoga techniques for specific therapeutic purposes. This ancient approach to Yoga is primarily oriented towards the development of mindfulness, a focus that can be secondary or neglected in our modern practice of Yoga.
Jacob's class format includes 90 minutes of practice with three distinct intentions; a nice integration of exercise, focus, and deep relaxation. His unique style has been developed from over a decade of teaching in Los Angeles, Boulder, Honolulu and Philadelphia.
In his care one is encouraged to quiet their mind of any tendency to force or push their practice. One is not expected to have perfect form; rather we adjust our bodies to fit the posture. Breathing and a special emphasis on the spine are more important than form, although asana and pranayama are taught from a classical perspective. Jacob’s approach also includes deep relaxation and rest at each level.
Jacob Narayan’s methodology is deeply rooted in the teachings of the late Professor T. Krishnamacharya of India, as it was passed on to his son T.K.V. Desikachar--during the latter part of Krishnamacharya's life and teachings--and the one-on-one teacher training Jacob received from Larry Payne, Ph.D., Founding President of the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
As the Guru of Pattabhi Joyce and B.K.S. Iyengar, Krishnamacharya inspired--if not invented--most of the yoga that we practice today. His last approach to Yoga was simple: “Do not worry about how well you practice Yoga. Focus rather on what your yoga practice does for your wellness." -Professor T. Krishnamacharya
This simplified approach was Krishnamacharya's final contribution to Yoga, India's great endowment to the world.
